How to Clean Your Washer & Dryer
Anon • March 18, 2020

It may seem as though a washing machine is self-cleaning, but dirt, grime and mold can collect in its cracks and crevices. As a result, a mildew smell may permeate both your washer and your clothing. The best way to ensure you are truly cleaning your clothes is to first give your washer and dryer a good cleaning.
To clean your washing machine:
Use your vacuum’s soft brush attachment (with a dry washing machine) and vacuum out any pet hair or small debris that may be left from previous loads.
Many new models have a washer cleaning cycle. If yours does not, add a half cup of liquid chlorine bleach to the dispenser and run a normal cycle with hot water. Many washing detergent companies sell washing machine cleaner, which can be used in lieu of bleach.
If you have a front-load washing machine with a rubber seal, wipe it dry with a towel to prevent mold.

To clean your dryer:
Clean the lint filter every time you dry a load of clothes. Start by removing as much as you can with a brush, then pick up the remaining lint with a dryer sheet.
You will occasionally want to clean the lint trap — the cavity where the lint filter is housed. This is done with a long dryer lint brush, which can be vacuumed to clean.
Once a year, clean the dryer’s vent hose and pipe to make sure it is running most effectively. This can be done on your own or professionally.
